	Left: Leesylvania Park, Manuel Redoble.   Right: Manassas Battlefield, Janet Sutherlin. One of my favorite class projects involves using temperature and value to create "mood." Most of my students look askance when I announce it, but the results are usually terrific, as in this pair. Notice how different the "mood," or feeling, is in each one.
	Right:: Still Life, Alice Jaworski. I like to start my students on simple still lifes. Here, Alice's understanding of shape and shadow helped her capture the three-dimensional forms of this small set up. While painting, she resisted the urge to "fiddle" and as a result ended up with fresh, delicate colors.
